Film Debut – "Looking for Debdas Baul"

Charlie Steiner is an award-winning documentary producer, videographer and photojournalist. His photography has appeared in major publications such as Newsweek, The New York Times Magazine, Time, Paris Match and Stern. Steiner’s extensive documentary work ranges in subject from culture and politics.

In "Looking for Debdas Baul", the filmmaker returns to India 26 years after first meeting the Baul singer Debdas and his young family. The Bauls are an order of wandering minstrels whose songs express the love between the human personality and a personal god who resides within the individual. The Baul philosophy and lifestyle are seen as a 21st century model for maintaining traditional culture while adapting to globalization.

The film features performances by Debdas, his family and the other Baul singers who are found in his village.
